In order to ensure fairness to all, children who are sick should not attend the school. It’s important to note that sooner or later, all children do get sick, so please be prepared and have a plan in place, such as a standby caregiver, if needed.
▪ Children suffering from an infectious illness must stay at home for the duration specified by the Health Department or family doctor.
▪ If your child has been ill within the past 24 hours, please contact us to consult with the Director or your child’s teacher before bringing them to school. Just like us, children need to be well in order to enjoy a day away from home.
▪ Please inform the school if your child has contracted a contagious illness so that we can notify other parents to be aware of the symptoms.
▪ If, in the opinion of the Director or the teacher in charge, your child is not well enough to be at school, you will be contacted to pick – up your child.
▪ If your child’s condition requires emergency attention, you and an ambulance will be contacted.
Norovirus Policy
In addition to the existing illness policy, we also have specific guidelines for dealing with norovirus. If your child has been diagnosed with norovirus, please follow the recommendations provided by the Health Department or your family doctor. It is important to keep your child at home until they are no longer contagious to prevent the spread of the virus within the school community.
Head Lice Policy
Leikskólinn Sælukot has a head lice policy in place. We recommend that parents take immediate action if they find head lice in their children’s hair. If lice are found, parents will be notified by phone, and the child must be picked up from school. Our policy requires excluding the child from preschool care until 8 hours after treatment. It is recommended to wait for 8 hours after treatment before allowing the child to return to Sælukot, ensuring there are no lice in their hair. If lice are detected again, you will need to bring your child home and repeat the treatment process.
Medication
If your child requires medication while attending school, you must complete a medication form each day the medication is needed. The completed form, along with the medication, must be handed to your child’s teacher for safe storage. For safety reasons, medication should not be left in your child’s bag.
Allergies/Asthma
It is essential that the school is informed of any special requirements, allergies, or medical conditions before enrollment. Forms will need to be completed regarding your child’s specific condition, and plans of action will be developed in consultation with the family and displayed accordingly. All staff members will be informed about the condition and the corresponding plan of action.
Additional Needs
We are dedicated to working with parents to plan for additional needs. Our preschool strives to integrate children with additional needs into our programs. Following an interview with the parent and child, the Director will assess the child’s needs and evaluate the appropriateness of the school’s resources and programs to provide the best support for the child.
