Ég heiti Gunnlaugur Sigurðsson (kallaður Gulli) og hef tekið sæti Leikskólastjóra í Sælukoti.
Ég er ekki nýgræðingur í Sælukoti, hef verið stjórnarmaður í Sælutröð, sem er félagið um sjálfan leikskólann, í tugi ára og hef fylgst með starfi hans og framþróun og reynt að hjálpa til eftir bestu getu.
Starfsferill minn frá því ég kom heim til Íslands fyrir nokkrum áratugum, eftir alllanga dvöl við nám í Frakklandi og störf í Danmörku, aðallega, hann hefur falist í að kenna verðandi kennurum. Fyrst í þáverandi Fósturskóla Íslands frá 1989 og síðan í þáverandi Kennaraháskóla Íslands eftir að þessir skólar sameinuðust um aldamótin síðustu. Síðan á menntavísindasviði Háskóla Íslands til ársloka 2020. Ég hef þannig trúlega verið kennari meirihluta þeirra leikskólakennara og leikskólastjóra sem nú eru starfandi í leikskólum landsins.
Það er því ekki nema réttlátt, að ég nú finni á eigin skinni að það kann að vera sitt hvað, að halda fyrirlestra með PowerPoint glærum um námskenningar Lev Semyonovich Vygotsky og lýðræðiskenningar John Dewey eða að sinna í reynd þessum í rauninni dularfullu mannverum, börnunum, sem við minnstu kynni af þeim taka óendanlega langt fram ölum kenningum um þau. En það grunaði mig raunar fyrir, þótt ekki væri nema vegna þess sem 7 mín eigin börn og enn fleiri barnabörn hafa kennt mér.
Annars er hlutverk mitt hér mest í því fólgið að styðja við starf þeirra sem annast börnin ykkar í raun. En það er líka mikilvægt hlutverk og ég geri mitt besta í því.
My name is Gunnlaugur Sigurðsson (called Gulli) and I have taken the place of Kindergarten Principal in Sælukot.
I am not new to Sælukot, I have been a board member of Sælutröð, which is the association for the kendergarten itself, for ten years and have followed its work and progress and tried to help to the best of my ability.
My career since I came home to Iceland several decades ago, after a long stay studying in France and working in Denmark, has mainly consisted of teaching future teachers. First in the then Foster School of Iceland from 1989 and then in the then Teacher’s University of Iceland after these schools merged at the turn of the last century. Then at the Faculty of Education at the University of Iceland until the end of 2020. I have probably been the teacher of the majority of kindergarten teachers and principals currently working in the country’s Kindergartens.
It is only fair, therefore, that I now feel on my own skin that it may be something radically different, giving lectures with PowerPoint slides about Lev Semyonovich Vygotsky’s learning theories and John Dewey’s democratic theories and in practice taking care of these essentially mysterious human beings, the children, who, at the slightest acquaintance with them are far ahead of all theories about them. But I really suspected it, if only because of what my 7 own children and even more grandchildren have taught me.
Otherwise, my role here mostly consists in supporting the work of those who actually take care of the children. But it is also an important role and I do my best in it.
